Franck implies that there is no reason to need autossh rather than plain ssh. Was getting connection timed out all the time. :( On using the Power Cycle, as pointed out by @tamara worked for me. If the traceroute succeeds without timeouts/endless loops, then try to create a new Ubuntu 14.04 droplet in LON1 and see if you can connect to it.
